PESHAWAR, November 10, 2022 – Prominent sports journalists from European and Asian countries have said that they had heard a lot about the friendship between Pakistan and China, but a visit to China Window, a Chinese cultural and information center established in Peshawar, has proved that the friendship between Pakistan and China are Iron Brothers.
These views were expressed by the delegates of Korea, Romania, Hungary, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nepal, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia while talking to the media after visiting the China window. Organizers briefed the delegates about Pakistan-China relations.
Asian Sports Journalists Federation president Hee Don Jung from Korea said that he came to know about the China Window through social media and was not sure that he would ever visit Peshawar and get a chance to see the China Window. They also got a chance to learn about the achievements of Chinese athletes at the China Window. Other delegates also described the China Window as a beautiful cultural center and a masterpiece of Pakistan-China friendship.

The Italian Gymnastics Federation (FGI) has apologized to the country’s gymnasts after several spoke out about the abuse they had faced and documented their experiences of suffering from eating disorders.
After stories documenting the experiences of a series of Italian gymnasts, including world and European champions, were published by the country’s media, the FGI issued a statement saying it “did not tolerate any form of abuse.”
“The FGI does not tolerate any form of abuse and is always at the side of all its members,” the organization said.
“Sport, with gymnastics above all, is respect for the person, a celebration of talent and well-being.
“Provisions have been made to immediately inform the Federal Prosecutor and the Safeguarding Officer of the investigations and actions of their respective competence.
“All gymnasts, technicians, and managers are invited to come forward, and whoever has information contact the FGI, which will guarantee confidentiality and listening.
“Only all together can we face these intolerable behaviors and eradicate them from the world of gymnastics which is strong, healthy, and has no room for those who do not share the values of sport.”
Among the gymnasts to provide testimonies were double world champion and European champion Anna Basta, who spoke of experiencing eating disorders, laxative abuse of herbal supplements, and suicidal thoughts.
Double world champion Giulia Galtarossa also spoke out about her experiences of psychological abuse, humiliation, depression, and eating disorders.
Other gymnasts to speak out included junior European Championships silver medallist Nina Corradini, who told of suffering psychological abuse, humiliation, eating disorders, and laxative abuse.
Ilaria Barsacchi, who quit the sport at the age of 16, also documented how she developed an eating disorder and experienced unhealthy controlling and restricting of eating, followed by binging, otherwise known as excessive eating.
President of the Italian National Olympic Committee Giovanni Malago also apologized to gymnasts, saying: “As President of the Olympic Committee and reference point for Italian sport, I feel the obligation to apologize to all athletes and former athletes who have suffered from inappropriate behavior.”
Malago added: “In gymnastics a certain degree of rigor on the weight is inevitable.
“It is different when it becomes violence and humiliation.”
Speaking following the publication of gymnasts’ experiences Italian Gymnastics Federation President Gherardo Tecchi said: “No medal is worth the well-being of a person.
“Nothing like this will be accepted anymore, the goal is to reach zero number of cases.”
Earlier this year a report entitled the Whyte Review detailed abuse that gymnasts in Britain suffered between August 2008 and August 2020, including various degrees of emotional, physical, and sexual harm.
Also earlier in the year USA Gymnastics unveiled a new logo as part of its efforts to move on from the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal.
The organization filed for bankruptcy in 2018 after numerous lawsuits were filed against it, in relation to cases of sexual abuse against the country’s gymnasts by Nassar, during his time working as a USA Gymnastics team doctor.

Acest aspect este important pentru toți cei care aparțin comunității gimnasticii mondiale: sportivi, antrenori, arbitri, manageri, etc. Am subliniat provocările pe care le au și antrenorii și sportivii ce aleg să practice gimnastica de înaltă performanță, dar și necesitatea de a găsi modul corect de comunicare între sportivi și antrenori. Prezentările tuturor vorbitorilor din cele 2 zile de simpozion au adus informații importante și necesare pentru a crea o ambianță cât mai plăcută și sigură în gimnastică.”
Pakistan. Peshawar. „Land of flowers and hospitality”. Sfârșit de octombrie – început de noiembrie. Acest oraș s-a confruntat mult timp cu terorismul, care a cauzat daune ireparabile nu numai în Peshawar, ci și economiei întregii provincii a fost gazda Conferinței Internaționale a jurnalismului sportiv pe tema „Sport și pace”, eveniment care s-a înscris ca fiind primul de acest gen în istoria presei sportive pakistaneze și la care au luat parte numeroase personalități ale presei sportive internaționale, și ale vieții sportive și sociale din această țară. „Acum pacea se întoarce la Peshawar. Acesta este și motivul pentru care Asociația Presei Sportive din Pakistan a decis să organizeze prima Conferință Internațională la Peshawar, o Conferință având ca temă principală «Sport și Pace», și nu în ultimul rând, rolul presei”, a declarat Amjad Aziz Malik, președintele Asociației Presei Sportive din Pakistan, Membru al Comitetului Executiv al Asociației Internaționale a Presei Sportive (AIPS) și Secretar General al AIPS Asia. Și aceasta deoarece, după cum afirma și Guvernatorul interimar al Provinciei de Vest a Pakistanului, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, ”jurnaliştii sportivi joacă un rol important nu numai în dezvoltarea şi promovarea sportului, dar și în proiectarea unei imagini pozitive a provinciei, acasă, dar și peste hotare”.
La această Conferință – la care au luat parte peste 200 de ziariști din Pakistan și Afganistan, precum și invitați speciali din România, Coreea de Sud, Azerbaidjan, Ungaria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Arabia Saudită, Afganistan, Malaysia, precum și reprezentanți de marcă ai oficialităților sportive și politice ale Provinciei. Invitat de onoare a fost și colegul Emanuel Fântâneanu, membru al Comitetului Executiv al AIPS, alături de el mai aflându-se Hee Don Jung (Coreea de Sud) – vice președinte AIPS și președinte AIPS Asia, Niranjan Rajbanshi (Nepal) – trezorier AIPS Asia, Nargis Mahmoodzadi Eldar (Azerbaidjan) – membru CE AIPS Europa, Anna Szilagyi (Ungaria), Ramkrishnan Karuppiah (Sri Lanka), Izahar Atan (Malaysia), Salma Niazi (Afganistan). A fost un eveniment care s-a desfășurat la cele mai înalte cote, din punct de vedere al consistenței dezbaterilor și intervențiilor, precum și organizatoric, pe fondul unor reale și sincere manifestări ale unei deosebite ospitalități și atitudini prietenești, prilejuind un mesaj deosebit de important in contextul existenței a numeroase conflicte.
Aflat la tribuna Conferinței, Emanuel Fântâneanu a susținut alocuțiunea „Sport, Pace și Media”, menționând, printre altele, că „sportul este un factor vital în dezvoltare durabilă, opinia unanimă fiind a recunoaște contribuția tot mai mare a sportului la dezvoltare socială si pace. Sportul este un instrument convingător pentru promovarea păcii, toleranței și înțelegerii, reunirea oamenilor dincolo de granițe, culturi și religii. Valorile sale precum munca în echipă, corectitudinea, disciplina și respectul trebui înțelese folosite pentru promovarea solidarității și coeziuni sociale… În acest tablou trebuie inclusă, desigur, și presa ca factor de influență evidentă în îmbunătățirea și creșterea calității sportului, în conștientizarea publicului cu privire la sport și cultura sportivă reprezintă o problemă foarte reală… Trăim într-o lume în care presa este omniprezentă, iar sportul continuă să capteze imaginația publicului, dar și una in care numeroasele conflicte oferă, de asemenea, mari motive de îngrijorare… Trebuie să continuăm să lucrăm neobosit pentru ca pacea să domnească în lume și în lumea noastră, pentru ca timpul și timpurile să fie mai bune și pașnice pentru generațiile prezente și viitoare. Oricum, sportul rămâne, fără îndoială, un instrument cheie al diplomației, așa cum demonstrează diversele inițiative care inspiră speranță… Acesta este și motivul pentru care cuvântul presei este deosebit de important în promovarea adevărului, a valorilor sportului într-o lume ce trebuie să trăiască sub semnul păcii…”.
Ceea ce s-a afirmat de la tribuna Conferinței – „Importanța păcii în sport” (Zsuzsa Csisztu, vicepreședinte AIPS), ”De ce este important sportul pentru pace? ” (Hee Don Jung), „Peshawar, Pace și Sport” (Syed Akhtar Ali Shah = Inspector General al Poliției KP), „Peshawar un oraș iubitor de pace și sport” (Syed Aqil Shah – Presidintele KP Asociației Olimpice), ”Dezvoltarea tinerei generații într-o societate pașnică” (Mahmood Khan – prim-ministru Mahmood Khan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) ș.a. – au fost nu numai pledoarii în favoarea contribuției sportului la promovarea valorilor de necontestat ale sportului, care are ”puterea de a schimba lumea” (Nelson Mandela), dar și afirmarea rolului important al presei în socitetate.
În cadrul evenimentelor prilejuite de organizarea Conferinței, ca o ilustrare a temei discuțiilor, un moment important l-a constituit și ratificarea Memorandumului de colaborare dintre Asociația Presei Sportive din România și Pakistan Sports Writers Federation, în mesajul său, Dumitru Graur, președintele APSR, subliniind importanța realizării unor colaborări între asociațiile naționale, „indiferent de distanța care ne separă, pentru că fiecare poate găsi în celălalt un partener de idei, de acțiune, de cooperare…”. În numele APSR, documentele au fost prezentate de Emanuel Fântâneanu, membru al Comitetului Executiv al AIPS.
Acțiunea organizată de colegii ziariști din Pakistan a fost și un excelent prilej de a vizita orașul Peshawar, Peshawar Museum, Cina Window, Sediul AIPS ASIA, Balahisar Fort, Michney Chek Point – granița Pakistan / Afganistan – Khyber Riffles Mess, Islamia College, Sethi House, dar și Complexul Sportiv de la Mardan sau stațiunea turistică Abbotabbad, pe fondul unei ospitalități si prietenii rar întâlnite.
Fără îndoială, Peshawar și argumentat pe deplin de „Land of flowers and hospitality”.

Two years and seven months after Budapest 2020 – a period punctuated by lockdowns across the globe – delegations representing 105 national associations as well as guests from all around the world converged on the Eternal City, the historical capital of Italy, from October 3-6, 2022 to usher in a new era for the association.
GIANNI MERLO RE-ELECTED AIPS President Gianni Merlo was re-elected by acclamation on the final day of the Congress. This news is on page 34. October 5 was also a historic day that saw the election of two female Vice-Presidents for the first time. Following the elections into various executive positions, Congress engaged in important discussions regarding the revision of the statutes, the AIPS Sport Media Awards, AIPS Young Reporters Programme, the Seoul 2023 Congress, and the centenary celebration of AIPS in Paris, in 2024. Earlier on Day Two of the Congress, three out of the four AIPS continental sections went to the polls. Hee Don Jung, Carlos Julio Castellanos, and Charles Camenzuli were elected presidents of AIPS Asia, AIPS America, and AIPS Europe respectively.
PRESS FREEDOM In his editorial titled “Ninety-eight years and counting, the fight to defend our rights continue and we must be united”, AIPS President Merlo highlighted the importance of unity in the fight for press freedom after drawing attention to the fact that some federations and sports clubs are closing all our access to the sources while some governments are arresting journalists. “Our unity will help us to be even stronger when we find ourselves defending the rights of our colleagues, who are imprisoned or enabled to leave their country so as not to be persecuted,” he wrote on page 9. The cases of two imprisoned Iranian AIPS Members are reported on page 29 and AIPS is demanding their immediate release from jail in Iran
AIPS MEETS ALEKSANDER ČEFERIN The TH Roma – Carpegna Palace Hotel opened its doors to over 250 participants including UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, who was the first guest to take the stage on the opening day of the Congress. For 40 minutes, he had an open conversation with AIPS president Gianni Merlo and then answered questions from some of the attendees. Čeferin spoke about the current state of European football, including Financial Fair Play and calendars, the continuous challenges of his office in the two and a half years of Covid, and the failed Super League, which has made European football more united than ever. He confirmed he will run for office again stating that he has 55 letters of support out of 55 members. Read about this on page 30.
THE STORY OF A YOUNG REPORTER-TURNED-SOLDIER On the same opening day, Vito Cozzoli, President of Sport and Salute S.p.A and ARISF President Raffaele Chiulli also spoke about their respective organizations before Ukrainian young reporter-turned-soldier Vladyslav Dunaienko, who needed a special permit to leave his country shared his emotional and poignant war story that began with the Russian invasion of his country in February 2022. Italian AIPS Mentor Riccardo Romani, who himself was at some point in Ukraine to cover the war, moderated this heart-tugging session. This is on page 38.
PANELS AND PRESENTATIONS Day Two the Congress was packed with panel discussions on the future of sports journalism in the era of robots as well as gender inequality in the sports media and presentations by IOC, FIFA, UEFA, Special Olympics, and Chungcheong Megacity 2027 Bid Committee. Pioneer AIPS Young Reporter Ritah Aliguma shared how her Aliguma Foundation is using sports to transform the lives of kids in the slums of Uganda. And then President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and Milano-Cortina 2026 Foundation, Giovanni Malagò, gave a brief speech. Everyone departed for a guided tour of the Olympic Forum and dinner at the Olympic Stadium afterward.
OREGON 2022 The World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 offered two enthusiastic young reporters an opportunity of a lifetime in the USA. Alla Vaskovska from Ukraine and Robert Witt from Germany shared their experiences covering a major event of this magnitude for the first time in their lives from page 56.

De asemenea, un moment important al acțiunii l-a constituit semnarea Memorandumului de colaborare dintre Asociația Presei Sportive din România și Pakistan Sports Writers Federation.
Indiscutabil, Peshawar a fost ”Land of hospitality”.
Participating officials at the inaugural Safe Sports Journey Symposium held alongside the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships here have pledged to make the sport safe.
The two-day event at the ACC Exhibition Centre was attended by more than 200 participants, with a further 100 joining online, and hosted jointly by British Gymnastics and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) with support from the Liverpool 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships Organising Committee and Government agency UK Sport.
Gymnastics has been rocked by abuse scandals in the United States, Australia, Britain, Greece, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Switzerland, prompting the FIG to establish the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation and a Safeguarding Commission, and introducing the 10 Golden Rules of Gymnastics and a new Code of Conduct.
FIG President Morinari Watanabe, who is a member of the International Olympic Committee, called for organizations present at the Symposium to focus their attention on serving athletes.
“We need to bring the elements of enjoyment, friendship, and solidarity back into gymnastics,” the Japanese official said.
“Urban sports and Paralympic sports are successful precisely because they share these values.
“Every block in the inverted pyramid, from coaches, judges, National Federations and continental unions right down to the President, should work to support the athlete.”
Li Li Leung, who became USA Gymnastics President and chief executive in February 2019 and a FIG Executive Committee member last year, shared the national governing body’s experience of promoting cultural change in response to the Larry Nassar scandal.
She said that the Symposium offered a welcome opportunity for organizations to learn from each other,
“The Symposium was a great platform to be able to bring a lot of constituents together to be able to talk about this really important topic of athlete safety, and it looks like we will continue to try and do the Symposium whether it’s at other World Championships or our other large-scale events,” Leung said.
“I did talk to people at the event to ask if they found the information that was shared and the time they spent at the Symposium helpful, and they said absolutely yes that they did.
“I have spoken with many countries about other abuse that is coming to light in their countries now and/or how they can work towards having a better framework for athlete safety going forward.”
Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medallist Andreea Răducan of Romania, an abuse survivor and member of the FIG Safeguarding Commission with Leung, called on those present to emphasize the importance of “the journey to a World or Olympic medal”, rather than “getting the medal itself.”

Gymnastics Ethics Foundation director Alex McLin was another key speaker who emphasized the need for acknowledgment, apology, and accountability.
British Gymnastics chief executive Sarah Powell declared the World Championships a “perfect opportunity” to address safeguarding in gymnastics, and said that the event had “been able to bring together some of the strongest voices in safeguarding to share their stories”

Echipa din care a făcut parte a câștigat, în 2000 tilul olimpic la Sydney, iar în 2001, ultima medalie de aur la campionatele mondiale.
Evenimentul, organizat în timpul Campionatelor Mondiale, în perioada 1-2 noiembrie se adresează membrilor comunității de gimnastică, cu scopul de a asigura un mediu sigur pentru sportivi, prevenind orice formă de abuz în sălile de antrenament sau la competiții.”
Dragi prieteni, Sunt situații în viață când e mai înțelept să taci. De câteva zile mi se cere în mod repetat opinia referitoare la situația nefericită în care se află Simona Halep, după testul pozitiv. Oamenii cred că toate cazurile de doping sunt la fel sau că totul se întâmplă după un tipar. Nimic mai greșit! Fiecare caz își are particularitățile sale și trebuie tratat ca atare. O situație similară a fost și în cazul patinatoarei de 16 ani, din Rusia, Kamila Valieva, când presa internațională m-a solicitat să comentez situația acestei sportive. Am spus-o și atunci, repet și acum: pot să vorbesc oricând, cu toate detaliile, despre cazul meu, care este realmente unic. A fost un fapt fără precedent, care m-a marcat profund atât pe mine, cât și pe cei care m-au susținut în competiții. Iată, după 22 de ani de la trista întâmplare când mi-a fost retras titlul de campioană olimpică la individual-compus, din cauza unei pastile pentru răceală, încă mai vorbim despre acea nedreptate.
Uneori în viață poți plăti pentru greșelile altora sau chiar pentru ego-ul lor. Exact asta am simțit la Sydney, unde membri din comisia care a judecat cazul meu au recunoscut că nu era un caz de dopaj, ci pur și simplu o eroare medicală. Pseudoefedrina (un derivat al efedrinei) se găsește în toate medicamentele pentru răceală și gripă. Mi-ar plăcea să rețineți 2 detalii importante cu privire la cazul meu: 1 – Pseudoefedrina NU ÎMBUNĂTĂȚEȘTE PERFORMANȚA SPORTIVĂ. În traducere, nu am câștigat medalia de campioană olimpică datorită ei și 2 – PSEUDOEFEDRINA NU ERA INTERZISĂ ÎN LISTA FEDERAȚIEI INTERNAȚIONALE DE GIMNASTICĂ ȘI NICI ÎN LISTA CIO. Însă pe lista CIO era permisă într-o cantitate foarte mică. De ce tocmai acea cantitate? Nu cred că știe nimeni cu exactitate, pentru că nu s-a făcut niciun fel de studiu înainte de a fi inclusă pe lista substanțelor interzise, în cantitatea respectivă. Să nu uităm că eu cântăream doar 37 de kg la momentul acela. Probabil dacă aveam măcar 40 de kg, concentrația medicamentului primit chiar înainte de concurs nu ar mai fi depășit limita permisă. Așa cum probabil cei mai mulți dintre voi știți deja, pseudoefedrina a fost exclusă după aceea din lista substanțelor intrezise. Știu că în zilele noastre sportivul trebuie să răspundă pentru ce se află în organismul său. Și este de înțeles. Dar, în continuare, cred că sportivul are altă menire în această ecuație. Și nu pentru că n-aș fi înțeles nimic după incidentul meu, ci pentru că niciodată nu aș putea pretinde că știu mai multe decât știe un medic sau un biochimist în domeniul medical. În concluzie, consider că fiecare membru al unei echipe sportive își are rolul său bine definit, pe care trebuie să și-l ducă până la capăt pentru scopul comun de a învinge. Îmi închei mesajul prin a-i ura Simonei mult curaj și înțelepciune pentru a depăși acest moment extrem de delicat. Îi doresc să găsească soluția cea mai potrivită. Nimeni nu-i va lua titlurile obținute sau talentul imens. M-aș bucura să poată trece cu bine peste acest incident și să-și poată continua cariera. Este și va rămâne o mare sportivă. International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) President Morinari Watanabe has defended the contentious decision to allow Russian and Belarussian delegates to attend the organization’s Congress, insisting members must “listen to their opinions”.
The Japanese official has explained the reason behind the permission of Russia and Belarus in the latest FIG Bulletin previewing the Congress, due to be held from November 11 to 12 in Istanbul in Turkey.
The Netherlands is the latest country to boycott the annual meeting following Poland, Estonia, Norway, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Italy.
All seven National Federations have cited the participation of Russian and Belarusian officials as the reason for their withdrawals.
Russia and Belarus have largely been frozen out of international sporting competition since the invasion of Ukraine in February, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommending that athletes and officials from both countries are excluded from events.
However, the IOC’s suggestions have not covered elected Russian and Belarusian officials, and several International Federations have permitted both nations to take part in their Congresses and General Assemblies.
The Russian Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus were both present at the Association of National Olympic Committees General Assembly in the South Korean capital Seoul despite opposition.
IOC member Watanabe said it had decided not to exclude Russia and Belarus from the FIG Congress “because of our duty as an international organization”.
“When you are elected as a member of an international organization, your position is not related to your country of origin,” said Watanabe.
“Basically, you are in a neutral position.
“If that basic policy is not respected, international organizations cannot exist.
“That is why neither the United Nations nor the IOC has excluded Russia and Belarus.
“Above all, international organizations must make efforts to maintain, not to put an end to, relations with Russia and Belarus.
“As an international organization, the FIG will convey our views to its Russian and Belarusian officials.
“And we, the FIG, must also listen to their opinions.
“After the war, we must all be one team again.
“Otherwise, we cannot create a bright future.”
The FIG had initially allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as neutrals following the invasion of Ukraine, before implementing a ban on their participation effective from March 7.
Competing under a neutral banner at the FIG Apparatus World Cup in Doha, Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak wore the letter “Z” on his singlet, a symbol widely regarded to be a signal of support for military action and displayed on tanks during the invasion.
Kuliak has since been banned by the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation for one year and stripped of the bronze medal he won at the World Cup.
Watanabe stressed that the FIG was “100 percent against war” and has “no place for anyone who supports the war”.
“If gymnasts or officials make statements or actions in support of this way, the FIG will impose strict punishments against them,” added Watanabe.
“We will punish them as severely as the Gymnastics Ethics Federation does.
“I believe that punishment should be individual, not for the entire organization.
“War crimes are also punished individually.
“Unnecessary punishments create new hatred.
“When the war eventually ends, we will have to reduce the hatred that might remain.
“We should avoid allowing hatred to be part of the future of the gymnastics family.”
